Deck Chair Slat

The Western Union cable ship S.S. Minia was the second of four ships chartered by the White Star Line to search for bodies in the aftermath of Titanic's sinking. Along with the dead, sailors of the Minia brought back many souvenirs - pieces of wreckage and bottles of ocean water were common. Among the wreckage, several of Titanic's first class deck chairs were plucked from the icy North Atlantic ocean. This back rest slat was removed from a badly damaged Titanic deck chair saved by one of the Minia's senior officers. It was previously in the collection of the well known collector, author and historian, Mr. Steve Santini of Titanic Concepts, Inc. and was once displayed at now defunct Manitoba Museum of the Titanic.
